3. Verify your identity through DigiLocker. Select “Register/Link using DigiLocker,” log in with your DigiLocker credentials, and grant GOAPS permission to fetch your verified details.
4. Complete the live facial capture. Use your webcam or phone camera when prompted. This gets matched against your DigiLocker photo, so make sure you’re in good lighting and your DigiLocker photo is recent.
5. Review your auto-filled details. Your name, date of birth, address, and photo will populate automatically from DigiLocker. Check every field carefully, you can no longer freely retype this information the way older GATE forms allowed.
6. Fill in your academic and eligibility details. Enter your qualifying degree, institute, year of graduation/study, and category, exactly as they appear on your certificates.
7. Choose your GATE paper. Select your primary paper from the full list, this now includes the newly introduced Robotics and Automation (RA) paper. If you’re eligible for and want a two-paper combination, select your second paper here too.
8. Pick your exam zone and 6 preferred cities. Choose one of the eight GATE zones based on where you want to appear, then rank 6 cities from within that zone only, mixing cities across zones isn’t allowed.

Don’t treat the last date as your target date. Every year, GOAPS slows down considerably in the final 48 hours as traffic spikes, and a document upload that takes ten seconds today can time out entirely on deadline night.

Common Mistakes That Delay or Block Registration

• Name mismatch. Your name across DigiLocker, your Photo ID, and your academic records needs to match exactly, spelling, initials, and titles like Mr./Ms./Dr. included.
• Unverified DigiLocker. An account that exists but isn’t fully verified will block you at the identity step. Confirm “verified” status before you start the GATE form, not during it.
• Inactive Aadhaar-linked mobile number. If OTPs aren’t landing, your Aadhaar-linked number has likely changed and needs updating at a Seva Kendra first.
• Mixing exam cities across zones. All 6 of your city preferences must come from a single GATE zone, GOAPS won’t save a mixed list.
