A new GATE paper combination was launched by the exam-conducting authorities in 2026. According to this modification, when applying for the GATE exam, candidates can select the primary paper from a choice of 30 possibilities. However, only 29 subjects are eligible for the secondary paper combination. The 30 papers in the GATE 2026 test will be administered on February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026.

English will be used for the test questions. Candidates must choose a preferred choice of exam paper if they choose to take TWO test papers. The second test paper must be chosen from the allowed combinations shown in the table below. During the first (Regular and Extended) periods of registration, combinations other than those on the list are not permitted. An additional two-paper combinations might become available later; the GATE 2026 website will be updated to reflect this. Infrastructure availability and schedule viability are prerequisites for this.

Due to scheduling and infrastructural limitations, a candidate’s examination location for the second test may differ from that for the first, but still be in the same city. GATE 2026 will not be responsible for any legal duties resulting from this matter.

Certain combinations might eventually be taken off the list in the above table due to unanticipated events. In these situations, candidates will receive a refund for the cost of the second test paper.
